The Superconductivity and Superconducting Material Research Lab of Southeast University was established by Dr. Zhixiang Shi in 2003. Dr. Zhixiang Shi went back from Japan and joined the department of physics in Southeast University. Under Dr. Shi’s leadership, the research group keeps growing and being productive. Work in SSMRL involves both fundamental science as well as application aspects. The main focus is on superconductivity mechanism and supercon-ducting materials, including phase formation, microstructure and electromagnetic properties as well as basic superconducting mechanism.SSMRL has research programs in various aspects of superconducting systems, including:

(1) Characterization, flux pinning, and electron behavior of iron-based pnictide and selenide superconductors.

(2) Fabrication, optimization and characterization of iron-based pnictide and selenide single crystal, thin film and wire.

(3) Numerical calculation and simulation based on the first principle method. The topics include flux dynamics in type II superconductors and the superconductivity of graphene.

(4) Electromagnetic properties, flux pinning, and electron behavior of R5T4X10 (R: Sc, Y and Lu; T: Co, Rh, Tr and Os; X: Si and Ge) ternary superconducting compounds.

(5) Microstructure, transport, magnetic, and flux pinning properties of MgB2 bulk, thin film and wire.

Experimental facilities include ready access to the PPMS, XRD, PLD, LMBE and MJBF in the department as well as SEM and TEM in the campus. Besides, extensive routine facilities for sample preparation and characterization are available.

SSMRL has ongoing interactions with many universities both domestic and abroad, as well as with a number of industrial partners, including Dr. Tamegai in The University of Tokyo, Dr. Sumption in Ohio State University, professor Haihu wen in Nanjing University, professor Yanwei Ma in Chinese Academy of Sciences and Dr. Hongli Suo in Beijing University of Technology. The research group has been funded by various organizations, including the National Ministry of Education, Government of Jiangsu province, and private industry.
